“Pares Pares” is an open-themed exhibition of diptychs of small prints, drawings, and paintings. In art, diptychs are artworks made up of two panels that, together, form a single piece of art. They may be hinged together or hung separately but adjoining to each other. They became popular in the middle ages when small art pieces were joined and folded together as a way of protecting the pieces while being transported. Diptychs maybe considered metaphorical twins, one an extension of the other, or perhaps an ominous shadow, a “doppelganger” (that is, a double that haunts the original counterpart), or even a representation of a dualistic worldview that could either be complimentary or adversarial, given to a myriad of interpretations brought to life by an artist’s flight of imagination.
